Introduction to Powerboating
The aim of this powerboat course is to provide a short practical introduction to boat handling and safety on powerboats being used on all Irish waters. The course last 7 hours, there is no requirement for previous experience. Course content includes:
- Boat preparation
- Clothing and equipment
- Basic boat handling
- Planing and manoeuvring on the plane
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Securing to a mooring
- Anchoring
- Man Overboard
- Rules of the Road
- Regulations
- Safety on board
- Rope work
- Towing
- Weather
- Navigation & Pilotage
- Coastal Knowledge
All practical elements are performed as a crew member on a powerboat. Course material follows Irish Sailing’s syllabus.
